Visitor looking across forested hills from Ngu Lam Peak

Best things to do in Cat Ba

Give Cat Ba at least one day on the water and one on land: the contrast between Lan Ha Bay and the forested island is the reason to come.

Start with the bay

Take a licensed boat into Lan Ha Bay and choose a route with time to kayak, swim where permitted and see the limestone islands at an unhurried pace. Ask how much of the advertised day is spent on the water rather than in transfers.

Then explore the island

Walk a marked trail in Cat Ba National Park, visit Hospital Cave if it is open, or cycle through the valley around Viet Hai. These are different experiences, so select one or two rather than trying to tick off every stop in a single afternoon.

Choose by conditions

Sea activities depend on wind, tides and harbour instructions; forest paths can be slippery after rain. Keep one flexible activity in your plan and let the operator or park staff confirm what is safe on the day.
