Day one: settle in and see the bay
Arrive early enough to check in without rushing your boat departure. A full-day Lan Ha Bay trip gives you time for the limestone scenery and one or two activities; a late arrival is better used for a town walk and dinner, with the bay moved to day two.
Day two: choose a land route
For an active morning, walk in Cat Ba National Park and stop at Hospital Cave if access is available. For a slower day, arrange transport toward Viet Hai or enjoy the beaches near town. Leave a generous buffer before the final bus or ferry.
Avoid a fragile connection
Do not schedule your onward transport immediately after a boat tour. Weather, traffic and boarding procedures can change a return time, so confirm the actual meeting point and collection window with each provider.
